If I go running out into the rain-
will you follow?
If I dance along the beach, arms outstretched-
will you dance with me?
If I open my arms wide-
will you wrap yourself in them?
If I act silly at times due to childlike innocence-
will you play along with me?

If I asked you to save me-
could you offer your hand?
If I fell to my knees-
could you help me back up?
If I drove off the road-
could you grab the wheel?
If I blew off course-
could you help to set me straight?

If I turn out being different than you-
would you care?
If I came from another world-
would you treat me the same?
If I'm victim to others' ridicule-
would you stand up for me?
If I'm disliked for me dreams-
would you help me dream a new one?

If I'm not pretty enough-
will that even matter to you?
If I can't run fast enough behind you-
will that give you the chance to keep running?
If I'm lying there hurt-
will you eventually stop to aid my healing?
If I need a hero in my life-
will that hero turn out to be you?

If I wrote this on the wall-
would your eyes read it?
If I sang this in your sleep-
would your subconcious hear it?
If I request all this of you-
would you do your best to honor it?
I really hope so, because I'm not asking too much.

I owe this one to Mr. Sturges...while sititng in his wonderful class, he asked to compose a poem in which every line started with "if" but ends completely different. This was very fun to come up with; it made me think a lot about what I want in a significant other. Helped me establish my standards...

in my opinion its kinda repetitive with all the "if i"... but... thats the whole point. lol.
i really like the last stanza...
i hope you find someone who fills all these criteria. :)

yeah, i know, the "ifs" get kind of annoying...but it was like putting a puzzle together. i dont necessarily like that kind of forced poetry, but like i said--it was the assignment. thanks for the positive feedback!
